Owner James Han, formerly of the well-regarded Wasabi Bistro in Belltown, Seattle, has created an eclectic menu that makes use of the freshest seafood and typically “Japanese” preparations, but is a decided mix of Eastern and Western influences. For example, the sauces (shown off in the trio of tunas and filet mignon) give each dish a delicious and memorable “zing,” and highlight the chef’s French culinary training. Lighter eaters at Fat Fish may even want to just make a meal out of the wonderful selection of appetizers, such as the stuffed tomato or soft-shelled crab. The entrees focus mainly on seafood and include complex flavors and preparations; don’t miss the mushroom crusted black cod or the seared bass. While there isn't’t a separate sushi bar, there are excellent sushi choices on the menu, even a “flaming” creation topped with eel that comes out ablaze. The talented pastry chef’s desserts are divine, especially the banana soufflé cake and coconut and ginger crème brule. The service at Fat Fish is excellent (I’m hoping this will not change once the word gets out and the restaurant gets packed every night!). The “Fat Lounge,” the bar at the back of restaurant has become an intimate, relaxing place to meet for drinks with friends or for a pre-meal martini. Overall, Fat Fish deserves the highest rating for its total dining experience, a blend of sophisticated East-West cuisine, unique preparations, and upscale ambience. BEST DISHES: PRICE RANGE LINK: |
